Karen D’Angelo, Lyric Coloratura Soprano, has a voice described as “preserved” and possessing “grace, power, and precision.” Her voice presents “a bright light of limpid, liquid coloratura…like champagne, effervescent and quite a tour de force” with “superb facility” and “bell like tones.”

This past year, D’Angelo has poured her heart into the role of Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore to be presented by Buffalo Opera Unlimited (March 2019) while simultaneously preparing for her debut as Annina in Nickel City Opera’s production of Verdi’s La Traviata! (May 2019). Her previous credits with BOU include appearances as the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel), and Madame Heartmelt (The Impresario).

D’Angelo is a featured soprano soloist throughout Western New York and has performed with the Ars Nova Musicians, the Camerata di Sant’Antonio Chamber Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and Rochester Lyric Opera. Her upcoming oratorio engagements include Schubert’s Mass in G with the Clarence Presbyterian Church in April.

D’Angelo’s journey into opera began with intensive studies and performances in Italy with two consecutive programs: Belcanto in Tuscany and Operavision Academy where she had the rare privilege to work with Maestro Richard Bonynge.

While in Italy, she performed in Milano, Firenze, Torre del Lago, Il Museo Renata Tebaldi, Casa Barezzi, Casa di Riposo “Verdi”, Chiesa S. Leolino-Pansano and Castello di Verrazzano-Greve in Chianti where she worked closely with Maestro Giovanni Reggioli and Maestro Richard Hetherington.  Since that time she has continued her pursuit of professional vocal training with Mrs. Kathryn Cowdrick of The Eastman School of Music and professional coaching with Maestro Joshua Greene of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.

D’Angelo regularly sings all over Western New York and has been a soloist at the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center’s “Opera-Day", at the Lockport Kenan Center’s “Community Day”, “Venice Nights,” and “O- Opera”.  She has performed recitals for The Erwin H. Johnson Memorial Fund, the 28th Annual OperaBuffs Luncheon and concerts in Canada with “Operavision Academy.” She has performed as soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Ars Nova Musicians of Buffalo NY, Buffalo Chamber Players, Buffalo Opera Unlimited, Rochester Lyric Opera, Opera Sacra, Opera-Lytes, The Greater Buffalo Opera Company, Artpark and the Kavinoky Theater.

Before pursuing an operatic solo career, D’Angelo performed extensively as a soloist and ensemble member in the critically acclaimed Vocalis Chamber Choir of Buffalo, NY and was selected to perform in the Carnegie Hall Chamber Chorus under the direction of Sir Neville Marriner.  D’Angelo was also chosen as a finalist at Kleinhans Buffalo’s “Star Search” under the direction of Marvin Hamlisch.
